What is the GHM Relay All About?

The Geneva Half Marathon Relay is a two-runner adventure all its own. The relay involves two runners. RUNNER 1 will run RELAY SEGMENT 1 and RUNNER 2 will run RELAY SEGMENT 2 of the 13.1 Mile Course.

The Course is divided into two segments. RUNNER 1 Segment (7.4 ish MILES) and RUNNER 2 Segment (5.7 ish MILES)

RUNNER 1 will start the race and run the first 7.4ish-miles of gradually inclined City and Country Roads that are marked, and volunteer assisted. At the bottom of Slate Rock Road RUNNER 1 will hand off the timing belt to RUNNER 2 at the transition point. Volunteers and a tent are there to assist you. Here RUNNER 1 will have the ability to use a potty, get a drink and cheer on RUNNER 2 as they tackle the backside of the course. RUNNER 1 will then retrieve the car that was parked at the top of hill and proceed to the finish line waiting for RUNNER 2.

At the 7.4ish-mile transition, RUNNER 2 will start their leg of the race that will take them on 5.7ish-mile journey that encompasses several gradual inclines/declines over the next 3 Miles. You will head back into the City of Geneva and cross the finish line at the same place you started. RUNNER 1 should meet you somewhere around MILE 13 and cross the finish line with you.

RUNNER 2 should see their RUNNER 1 off at the start line located @ Lakefront Park. As RUNNER 1 is on the course, RUNNER 2 should proceed to the parking area just located off SLATE ROCK ROAD/TURK ROAD around mile 7. Volunteers and signage will be visible. RUNNER 2 will then proceed down Slate Rock Road and wait for their partner at the transition area.

Yes! We wouldn’t have it any other way.

Both runners will eventually wear the timing belt.  RUNNER 1 will start the race with it on, then take off and pass to RUNNER 2 at the Relay Exchange.  Please do not pull this belt off.  There is a clip that snaps together, thus no need to tie it around you, wear like a sash etc...  The timing belt must be returned at the finish line.  Each runner will also have their own bib to wear, so during the race, each runner will have two bibs.  One pinned to them, then the one that has the timing chip on the timing belt.

No, due to timing, safety and insurance constraints you are signed up for the relay and are participating in only one relay segment of the race. This is a USATF Certified event with top-finishers and prizes  and course support that does not allow for deviations.
